Spanking Round Table: “Spanking and Feminism”

November 7, 2013 By Trent Evans

new_table

Hello all,

When my friend Renee Rose asked me to join this month’s round table discussion I was surprised and honored … and I almost declined. Why? Well, I’m a guy, and at first, I wasn’t sure that my viewpoint would really be particularly relevant to this particular subject. I took several days to think about it though, and decided that perhaps, if nothing else, I might be able to offer a sort of “outsider’s view”. We’ll see if I succeed or not:)

At first blush, Spanking and Feminism would seem to suffer a fatal incongruity. How on Earth could these possibly be part of the same discussion, let alone be somehow compatible? When you really think about it though, the growing acceptance of one (spanking), is a result of the triumph of the other (feminism).

I can hear the peanut gallery coughing “bullshit!” à la the Delta House right about now (those of you under the age of 30 will have no idea what that reference meant, sorry about that). Stick with me though, because this will make sense in a minute.

First, I want to define for this post what I mean by “spanking”. I’m a male, and I identify as a heterosexual Dominant, so for my purposes, I’m referring here to spanking in a male dominant/female submissive context. Furthermore, since — in this context — the female being spanked is the submissive, I’m going to necessarily use the terms “spanking” and “submissive” more or less interchangeably here.

Now, how can the growing acceptance of spanking be a result of the triumph of feminism? In many ways, spanking, and the fact that women would want, and sometimes ask, their men to spank them, seems anathema to nearly everything taught and believed by classical feminism. But for me, when you get down to its core, feminism is supposed to give women choices, options, the power to be who and what they really are.

I really see spanking as a manifestation of just that  — women choosing to explore their sexuality in the way that makes the most sense to them, that gives them the most pleasure, that affirms what they believe.  Further, it seems to me that embracing spanking and female sexual submission sometimes could be a way of pushing back against classical feminist dogma that occasionally seeks to enforce conformity to a certain set of beliefs.

As an aside, I am blessed in that most of my close friends happen to be female, and this is one of the most surprising things I’ve learned from them. Often they feel “guilt-tripped” into acting/believing a certain way — almost as if they’ll be viewed as betraying the cause if they choose to go a different path. To me, submissive women, and especially those submissive women who are brave enough to “out” themselves as such, are exercising the freedom that the success of feminism has brought them. (Full disclosure: Outside the confines of the bedroom, I’m pretty much fully “in the closet” vis-a-vis my kinkiness, so I admire the fuck out of women who are out of the closet kinky — and thus ends Trent’s non-sequitur theater).

Maybe some see spanking/submission as a subversion of the ideals of feminism. I know some see it as a giant step backward for feminism (the success of 50 Shades spawned innumerable conversations and debates along these lines). But ultimately, I keep circling back to what feminism means to me — and that’s freedom. Before feminism, if you were a self-identified sexual submissive of any stripe, I’d imagine you’d keep fucking quiet about it for self-preservation reasons. Now, if you choose to (again, that freedom thing), you can openly embrace submission as being an expression of who you really are inside. I’ve said before on this blog that submission is a fundamentally brave act, and I still believe that. The fact that some women identify as submissive knowing that a certain cohort of women will reflexively see that as weak at best, or a betrayal at worst, just makes me admire their courage all the more:)

To those self-identified feminists who are troubled by what women running around asking to have their asses tanned means for the movement or for the state of women in general, I would gently suggest this: perhaps this embrace of spanking, and kink specifically, and female sexual empowerment in general, is a direct manifestation of the hard-won victories of feminism’s past. Instead of being troubled by what they see, I would hope those feminists would be bursting with pride at the freedoms (sexual or otherwise) all of their past struggles have brought modern women.

Rather than see spanking and sexual submission as a “threat” to the ideals of feminism, I sincerely hope that more people open their minds — and hearts — and see spanking/sexual submissiveness/kink for what it is:  an expression of the true natures of these women, and an embracing of themselves as positive, sexual beings.  What’s not to love about that?

I hope you’ll take the time to visit all of the other blogs in this month’s discussion (see below). There is some fascinating and thought-provoking stuff being posted by these ladies. Thanks for reading!

Saturday Spankings — 10/18/13

October 18, 2013 By Trent Evans

 saturday-spankings

Hello Fellow Spankos,

This week I’m continuing with another snippet from the upcoming full-length D/s novel “The Change”.

In this week’s clip we continue with what happens when Kirsten comes home from work, to find her husband Kiehl waiting for her. It’s their regular night for what they call “The Game”, their mutual exploration of discipline, desire, fantasy, and kink…

* * * * *

“Do it, Kirsten.”

She spread the cream fabric wide until even her shoulders were bared. The pale curves of her full breasts threatened to burst out of her skimpy bra, her nipples pebbled to stones under the black lace.

“Pull your skirt up.”

She glared at him, feeling her cheeks heat, but knew she’d do what he asked.

“I’m waiting.”

Her hands eased the dark fabric up her thighs until the tops of her stockings were revealed.

“Higher. Stop screwing around. I want to see if you’re wearing panties.”

Averting her eyes, she blushed, feeling the heavy weight of his gaze on her, her clit pulsing with the thump of her heart. She pulled the skirt the rest of the way up until the curls of her pubis were exposed to him.

 * * * * *

I hope you enjoyed this week’s snippet. Please take some time to visit the other sites in this week’s hop.

Until next week!

Trent

Saturday Spankings — 09/2713

September 27, 2013 By Trent Evans

saturday-spankings

This week I wanted to continue with the upcoming full length D/s novel The Change.

In this scene, Kirsten is having lunch with her best friend, Joely, and the conversation turns to what might happen with her marriage — and her sex life — now that she’s pregnant. What follows is a little portion of their conversation (my apologies in advance for having to go a little over the 8 sentence limit…)

* * *

Kirsten frowned. She hoped, prayed Kiehl wouldn’t lose interest once she started showing. She knew she’d need him to show that he still desired her, still valued her. She knew it was stupid, going against all the feminist ideals drilled into her from an early age. But there was something inside her that needed it. If she was going to carry a man’s baby, she needed to know more than ever that her man loved her, still lusted after her.

Still, she wondered if a part of her might be afraid sex would endanger the baby. Especially with the recently added dimension to their relationship. They’d have to tackle that issue when they came to it.

Her phone buzzed in her purse, and she pulled it out. It was Kiehl.
<As soon as you set foot in this house, I’m going to fuck you. Just a warning.>

Her shaking hands fumbled her phone, and it bounced off her lap and down to the floor.

“Dammit,” she said, looking under the table.

God, please don’t let Joely see that.

“Did it fall over here?” Joely leaned to the side, scanning the floor.

“No — no, that’s OK. I’ve got it.”

Thankfully, she was able to retrieve the phone and slip it back into her purse.

Their food showed up and they both ate in silence for a few minutes. She thought of what Kiehl might be doing at that very moment, what he was thinking about. If he knew what she was thinking about, he’d probably track her down at the restaurant and drag her home like a caveman.

That would be great as long as there was hair pulling and spanking.

She giggled putting her hand to her mouth.

“What?” Joely said through a mouthful of food.

“Oh, sorry. Just thinking about something Kiehl said.”

Joely swallowed, and took a sip of her wine. “Like what?

“He just — he’s looking forward to seeing me.”

“Ahh, someone’s getting laid this afternoon.” Joely winked at her.

Kirsten could feel her cheeks warming.

“Don’t be embarrassed,” Joely said, pointing her fork at her. “I’m happy for you guys, really.”

“Thanks, Jo.”

“Let me ask you something though.” Joely pointed down at the book she had lent to Kirsten. “If that smut didn’t really do it for you, what does? How do you guys keep things hot?”

Kirsten felt her blush deepen. “I don’t know, Joely. Maybe this isn’t the right place–”

“Oh stop, Kirsten. Nobody’s going to hear. Just talk softly. I’ve got good ears.” Joely wiggled her eyebrows.

Kirsten took a drink from her water, licking her lips. “OK, so we have this — thing. It wasn’t anything we planned, we just kind of fell into it. But it’s been growing, getting more serious.”

“Oh this sounds good.”

“Well, we call it ‘The Game’. I know it sounds dumb.”

“What is it? New position every day? Do it in public? What?”

Kirsten cleared her throat, her voice lowering. “So, I stumbled onto this website one day…”

It’s That Time Again! Skye Warren’s Wet and Wild Blog Hop!

May 19, 2013 By Trent Evans

3556930

I love this time of year, and not just because of this hop (though I’ve got to admit this hop is rad). This is the time of possibilities, of anticipation, of the excitement of what’s to come.

Following along with that theme of possibilities, a question came to me as I perused the rather impressive list of names involved in this year’s hop: where are the dudes?

Now, I know that few men seem to write in the genres represented on the list for this hop, but I know for a fact that I’m not the only male erotica and erotic romance author out there. Are male authors of erotica or erotic romance truly that rare?

I note this not to be self-serving, but rather to pose a few follow-up questions to you:

— Would you consider purchasing and reading erotica written by a male author?

— What about erotic romance?

— Do you feel as if male authors too often don’t get things “quite right”? Be honest — I can take it!

Now on to the good stuff;)

This hop is loaded up this year (check out the prizes shown below):

4193873

But there’s more:) …

Any live person (bots, you don’t count) who leaves a comment on this post, along with their e-mail address — which is needed strictly for notification of winners — will be entered into a drawing for an electronic copy of any one Trent Evans book.

Now, although I said only one book, sometimes I slip up and give away a book to more than one person — accidents do happen:) — so make sure to get your entries in!

Please be sure to hit all the other stops on the hop too (see the list below). There is a wealth of talent on this list, and you are sure to find enough great new books to double the height of Mount To-Be-Read 🙂

Happy Reading and thanks for visiting!

Best,

Trent

New Release — “What She’s Looking For” — Trent Evans

April 25, 2013 By Trent Evans

wslf_cover200x300

Finally, it’s here! I thought it might end me a few times, but the new book “What She’s Looking For” has been published. Per the normal release schedule, the first 90 days will be Amazon exclusive, followed by a roll-out to the other retailers.

I’ve done a few things with this one that I haven’t done before. This is my first official erotic romance, and it’s by far (at over 100K words) the longest book I’ve ever written. This is a BDSM (MFM) menage — also my first. Lastly, this will be the first book I’ve written that will (soon) have a print edition as well. I’m anticipating the print version will be done on or before May 15th (crossing my fingers). I’ll announce that too once it’s ready to roll.

The list price for this one is $5.99, but to reward followers of the blog, I’ve temporarily discounted the book 50% down to $2.99. This discounted price will last for a week or two at most, after which it goes back up to $5.99 — so grab it while the getting is good (and feel free to tell your friends:)

Book description and purchase links below:

***

What if the very thing you crave is that which you most fear?

Ashley is a woman running from her past — and from herself. Ten years of marriage to a man who took his dominance too far has left her scared, but defiant … determined, yet desperate.

Knowing what she doesn’t want, but not knowing what she really needs, she moves West, seeking to rebuild her life, for once in control of herself. But inside she suspects it’s that control itself that’s the real problem — she doesn’t want it. Any of it.

In a beautiful resort town in central Washington, she meets two gorgeous men; the stern, dangerous Parker, and the dark, brawny Drake. Can she risk herself again, surrender to the forbidden pleasure of being subject to these men? Or is the possibility of having her heart broken yet again too much to chance?

In the arms of not one, but two, strict Dominant men, can she find the peace she’s looked for all her life? The peace she’s only found in the bonds of utter submission, the taboo pleasure of being the property of two men at once?

Or, as she learns more about these mysterious men, will she realize that it’s not only her heart at risk?

Word Count: 100,212
Page Count: approx 303 pages

Guest Post — New Release: Taming Emma by Natasha Knight

April 24, 2013 By Trent Evans

Today, I’d like to welcome one of my fellow authors from Romancing The Kink, the talented Natasha Knight. She’s a lot more interesting than I am, so I’ll shut up now:)

******

Hi Trent, thanks so much for having me here today. I love your blog, I love your books and as you know, I’m thrilled about working with you on Romancing The Kink.

I just want to say a few words before getting to the excerpt for Taming Emma. As I was writing this book, the idea of a man who could  give pain became so intriguing to me that I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a long time. Still haven’t really. For some reason, to me, it exemplifies complete strength or power. I don’t really understand this so well just yet, but in the writing of Luke, this aspect of things developed a little bit. I feel like I just barely scratched the surface but that’s how my mind works I suppose. Slow for a little while before diving in deep, head first.

This excerpt comes toward the end of the book when Emma’s run off after Luke’s confronted her with her past. They need each other but are struggling with their separate demons. In his scene, Luke has told Emma he wants to see her, all of her. But she knows the only way she’ll be able to allow that is if he makes her.

 Enjoy.

 Taming Emma by Natasha Knight

Emma had always been interested in exploring the world of BDSM, and given her desperate circumstances, this sounded like the perfect opportunity. One weekend of complete submission to the highest bidder among a select group of wealthy men, and her financial troubles would be over. Emma wasn’t really sure what to expect when she agreed to the deal, but one thing she definitely did not expect was Luke Roark.

The moment Luke removed the blindfold and recognized the beautiful, nearly-nude young woman standing before him as Emma Lawson, his best-friend’s little sister, he knew what he had to do. However, after buying her contract with the intention of giving her a firm lecture and taking her home, he cannot help but imagine the things he could teach her.

Emma spent many years as a teenager fantasizing about Luke, and when he is suddenly thrust into her life again she is torn between her fears and her desires, but her need to submit wins out. Emma chooses to stay and honor her contract, and she quickly finds herself on her knees before him, bare, bound, helpless, and forced to take whatever he wishes to give her… and he wishes to give her a great deal, relishing the chance to play Emma’s naked, trembling body like a finely-tuned instrument until she is blushing red and begging for more.

It is not long, though, before both Luke and Emma can feel that something much more than just physical attraction binds them together, but can they put aside their painful pasts and embrace a future together?

Excerpt:

“There’s nothing ugly or dirty in truth. Let me see you,” he said.

She searched his eyes, wanting nothing more than to give him what he wanted. She only knew one way that that would be possible. “Punish me,” she said. “Hard.”

Now it was his turn to study her. She kept her gaze level with his. This was what she wanted, what she needed. For a moment, she wasn’t sure he would give it to her but then, his expression changed. He decided and every hair on her body stood on end in response.

He straightened to his full height, his eyes a little harder now. She watched him strip off his shirt and set it aside. He moved to the large trunk against the wall, opened it and returned a few moments later, riding crop in hand.

“Stand up.”

She heard her own heartbeat while she rose slowly to her feet. He was going to give her just what she asked for. His hand tighten around the crop while she watched. Her eyes grew wide when he tapped it against his leg and when she turned her gaze to his, it took all she had not to step back.

“You’re pale,” he said, touching her face.

“You like this,” she replied, forcing herself to remain still as he brushed her hair over her shoulders.

“Very much.” He brought his lips to hers and his free hand first caressed, then pinched one of her nipples.

She made no sound but her body trembled, her mouth opening to receive him.

He didn’t pull her nearer but only kissed and she knew he was taking pleasure. This was for him, only the punishment would be for her.

“Tell me,” he whispered against her mouth, still kissing her, still holding her to him. “How many strokes before you cry, Emma?”

She made a sound, her body wanting him, wanting what he was going to give her, even as it feared the pain.

“I’m going to give you exactly what you asked for,” he said, walking her toward the bed.

“Please,” she said when she felt the iron of the footboard against her back.

“Please what?” he asked, caressing her thigh with the crop.

“Please…Master,” she said.

“Oh, you’re a good girl, Emma. You’re my good girl. Now,” he pulled back. “Turn around,” he stepped back, giving her just enough space so she could turn.

She did, placing her hands on the cool metal.

“Down you go, rest your chest on the bed, arms overhead. Good girl, that’s right. Spread your legs wide for me.”

She didn’t look back as she settled her torso on the bed and extended her arms over her head. She’d asked for this. She spread her legs wide, imagining herself spread before him, ready for him. The weight of stiff leather made her shudder when he set the crop across her back and moved around the bed. She watched him unravel the long straps that were attached to each corner of the bed and wound them around her wrists, first the right, then the left. He then tugged and adjusted their length, lifting her just a little higher so that the footboard carried most of her weight and only the tips of her toes touched ground. She closed her legs a little, adjusting to the new position, but he came behind her and before she knew it, her ankles too were bound by similar straps, spreading her wide open. When he was finished, she watched him set a large mirror on the wall just in front of the bed. He positioned it so that she could see herself completely. Meeting her eyes in the mirror, he smiled, pleased.

When he stepped behind her, she felt, for one instant, panic. She tugged at her bonds but neither those at her wrists nor those at her ankles gave. They held her firm, her body now an offering as he lifted the leather from her back.

“How many until you cry?” he asked, his eyes on her wide spread bottom.

She tugged again, his voice sounding too different. “Master!” she called, needing him back. Needing Luke.

His eyes in the mirror looked darker, aroused definitely, but also something else.

“I want to give you pain, Emma,” he whispered.
