This week’s post continues with The Change, a novel about a married couple’s exploration of D/s and the complications — and new erotic possibilities — that result when the wife finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. In this particular scene the heroine Kirsten has called her husband Kiehl at his office to make a rather … interesting request.
Warning STRICT husband ahead…

“Kirsten? You OK?”
“Yes — I mean, no. Are you alone?”
Kiehl sighed. “Dear, you called me at the office in the middle of the day.”
She gulped. Anytime she heard that deceptive calmness sneak into his voice, and the use of words such as ‘dear’, it meant she was moving into potentially dangerous waters.
“Maybe I can just call back when you can get away then– ”
“Kirsten, what is it?”
“Is anyone around you? Can they hear?”
She could make out voices in the background on Kiehl’s end. They sounded close.
“You should have thought about that before calling me, dear. Spill it.”
She could feel the flush creeping up her neck, but there was nothing for it but to get it over with. “I was thinking. Do you think we could. .. stop them?”
“Them? What are you talking about?”
“Kiehl,” she breathed. “You know…”
“Oh,” he said, chuckling. “Let me think about it. For now, let’s keep going.”
So nonchalant!
It was as if he were considering something as simple as whether or not to continue a gym membership or the Book Of The Month club.
“Kiehl. It’s been a year.”
“Already? Damn, it’s gone by so fast. I’m just getting used to it.”
She sighed. “Please, Keihl. They hurt.”
He chuckled again. “We all have to sacrifice for love, my dear.”
Yeah, right. She had to sacrifice. He got to enjoy the benefits.
“Besides”, he said. “It’s been great. I love them.”
To be fair it wasn’t all sacrifice on her part; he’d been an animal since they’d agreed to keep them going. Well, he’d agreed, really. She just did as she was told.

Trent

Ooh, this is a tough one. It sets Kiehl up as selfish, but I have a feeling we are supposed to like him…perhaps eventually?
The most interesting heroes are the flawed ones:)
Selfish? The reader must judge for themselves — though admittedly the brief nature of snippets can sometimes result in the frustration of the lacunae…
I really liked this.
He has a very cool commanding presence, and fun wit.
Great job!
🙂
Thanks, Katherine. Glad you liked the wit:)
Trent, your style is so jagged (in a good way!) in bits like this–just perfect for the material.
Jagged style? I hope that’s good…
Thanks for reading, Emily
I love how in control he is. I think she knew what calling him at work would lead to… 🙂
I suspect you’re right, Corinne:)
Kirsten knew calling his office in the middle of the day was a no-no, and then she asks if they could stop ‘them’, putting ‘them’ right to the forefront of his mind. Something tells me, she’s going to get exactly what she doesn’t want when he gets home. 😉 Sacrifices, indeed. I don’t know whether to pity or envy her! Well done, Trent!
Thanks, Maren! Pity or envy? Hmm, I suppose one could feel both at the same time for poor, Kirsten:)
Receiving personal phone calls at work can be so annoying. I’m sure she knows better, and yet … perhaps she wants this spanking as much as he wants to give it.
I like the short, punchy dialogue. It’s natural and flows well from one thought to the next. Very nice, Trent.
Thank you, Alice. Love that you enjoyed the dialogue. I like this type of dialogue too — I just always worry that it’s not sounding “real”. Hopefully I’m on the right track.
I like him all ready, calm, assertive, and determined. What’s not like?
Indeed, PK. He’s all that in spades, but it’s … complicated:)
I am thinking this is going to rank up there with Maintenance Night for me. Well done Trent. 🙂
Gah! Now, watch — I bomb this damned thing. I kid. I’m looking forward to publishing this:)
Interesting, I can see she’s impulsive..waiting to share the news. Should have waited perhaps because she didnt even get her point across in the phone call.
Well, in the space of eight(ish) lines, we didn’t even come close to seeing the whole convo. So I had to try to find the part that comes closest to “summarizing” things:)
I don’t know. She says she hates it, but I think she might be fishing for some pink here. Why else call in the middle of the day while he’s at work?
I LOL’d at “fishing for some pink”. You’ve got a way with words, DaizieL) Love it.
I like how she is worried about someone in his office overhearing their conversation so she masks spanking with ‘them’.
I also like how he makes her squirm by not telling her if she can be overheard.
Delicious build up here.
Thanks, LA. Yes, a good bit of humiliation and trepidation can sometimes add a lot of spice to the otherwise mundane:)
God, I’m going to hell…
I agree. Awesome build up Trent. I’m feeling sorry for her.
But hey, I always call my husband at work. Are y’all saying I need a spanking? Lol
There is always a need for spanking!
Thanks for reading, Normandie (love the Daddy Morebucks title, btw — genius name for the book).
Not the best time to make a request! But perhaps she’s scared to do it in person?
Hmm, I wonder. Maybe she just couldn’t wait any longer…
She doth protest too much. Pushing his buttons is not the way to get him to stop, so I suspect that’s not what she really wants either. What does she really want Trent? Tell us more…
hehe. More next week … though I can’t promise it answers any questions. More likely, it will simply pose even more…
Yeah, I’m with Natasha. I’m sensing another Maintenance Night hit. I want it now. NOW I SAID!!!!
Oh Lord, now the pressure is on. :::flipping through Maintenance Night :::
Thanks, Renee. I do hope you like it:)
sighs, I love Kiehl’s handling of Kristen’s middle of the day call. such a wonderful snippet
Thanks, Joelle! Yes, Kiehl is rather … uncompromising:)
