What HAS Trent been up to?

September 7, 2026 By Trent Evans 6 Comments

Though my output of novels has slowed dramatically, in the past few years I’ve actually written new words at a pace that I don’t think I’ve ever matched. Rather than novels, I’ve focused for a while now on shorter forms of fiction/storytelling — anything from captions on up to short novellas.

There are a few reasons why I chose this, but essentially, the main one was to avoid finding myself stuck in a creative rut. In the process, I produced several hundred thousand new words of fiction, much of it in niches (or themes) that aren’t always typical of those seen in my novel work.

All that said, it is time for a change, a return to what I am best at, and what my readers overwhelmingly prefer — novels.

To be clear: I am going to write more novels. Many more. Novels will be my focus for the foreseeable future.

As part of my foray into shorter forms of writing, I stood up new outlets/venues for my work, including outposts at Ream, Patreon, and SubscribeStar. These have become very valuable (and fun) places to share my work, and interact with readers.

Those sites all serve a similar general purpose in being direct-to-the-reader subscription based platforms for my writing, but they all have a specific emphasis unique to each. (This will deepen and become more apparent with time.)

So, this post is intended to explain a bit more what you can find at these outposts.

Ream

This is the site I am most excited about, and the one outpost I believe has the most potential to be a place I post my writing to for a long time to come.

The main focus of Ream is serialized fiction (the format/layout reminiscent of those once seen at places like Radish). Since I don’t really do serialized fiction, at first glance this would seem to be an odd choice for me. But stick with me here, I’ll explain.

Over time, Ream has evolved to become a more or less central hub for all kinds of direct-to-reader writing.

Even better, Ream is continuously improving, and listening to both readers and authors when it comes to suggestions for improvements/refinements/added features.

Lastly, Ream is by far the friendliest platform to authors who write darker/edgier themes and content. Their content guidelines are sensible, and easy to comply with (which is in stark contrast to the next outlet my work can be found at).

How I’m Using Ream

The focus for Ream for me will be longer form, usually novel-length, work. This will be the place readers can go to follow along with writing my darkest/edgiest/most messed-up books as I write each chapter. I’ll be posting new work here as I write it, and it will stay here until it (eventually) gets published in book form at retailers.

There will also be platform exclusive content at Ream that I’ll be posting from time-to-time, but if you want to follow along with the creation of novels or other long-form content — and be most certain the content won’t be banned/suppressed — then this is the place to follow me.

Let’s move on to my next direct-to-reader subscription platform — Patreon.

Patreon

Ah… Patreon. All too often my very own bête noire.

A lot of people love this site — and I do too. But it’s got problems — big ones — for writers like me. Namely: content suppression.

Patreon has easily the worst, most inconsistent, and (at times) inscrutable content moderation policies. I’m not even sure their own staff really know what the content policies are, they’re so all-over-the-map with how they define content they will, and will not, accept.

That is the single greatest issue readers of my work who want to follow me on Patreon face: they are guaranteed NOT to be able to read all of it.

There are numerous pieces of my fiction that Patreon has — even after my multiple attempts at expurgation — simply refused to let me publish there. (And these were by no means pieces that even approached edgy, or taboo in the least.)

As I’ve always stated, that is completely their right, as it is their platform. They get to choose what gets published on it. Full stop.

But being unable (or unwilling) to explain, clearly, what the limitations on content are have made for crazy-making times over the years here.

The bottom-line for Patreon is that while it’s a site people know and trust, it is increasingly hostile to writers who focus on dark romance, and unequal power dynamics, as I do.

All of that said, I will continue posting there…but just know that it’s a tough row to hoe for this particular scribbler.

How I ‘m Using Patreon

In short, it’s the platform for the more sanitized version of what I do.

I will still post new work there, but it’s a coin-toss as to whether it will be blocked or not. I mean that — I really can’t predict it anymore.

When content is blocked, what I do is revise the post and convert it to a stub, noting that it’s been suppressed on Patreon, and directing readers to other platforms where they’ll be able to read the full version of that post. Then I apologize.

(I’ve done a lot of that over the years on Patreon’s part.)

It’s the place I use more frequently for new release or upcoming release information. Excerpts, what’s on the horizon, calls for ARC readers — that sort of thing. Patreon gets all of that.

I will also post interesting items at Patreon such as “Why I Wrote This Book”, interviews, and background info/lore/cool stuff from time-to-time. Patreon is actually great for that, so I will continue to utilize it for those sorts of posts.

I’m not at all trying to sh*t on Patreon: it’s a great place for creative people of all stripes, and I’m not (voluntarily) leaving it. I just wish it was a LOT friendlier to writers like us.

On to the last, but not least, platform — SubscribeStar.

SubscribeStar

This site (and concomitantly, my choice to utilize it) grew out of frustration with Patreon’s content suppression policies. Laid out in a very straight-forward, no frills way, it does exactly what it sets out to do — serve as a refuge for the wretched refuse cast out of Patreon. Once it went live, numerous creators either jumped ship from Patreon entirely, or began essentially mirroring their content there (which is largely how I’ve used it for the past few years).

With essentially no suppression, easy to understand rules, and a decent, bare-bones, interface, it’s actually a nice, if somewhat limited, site. It’s a heckuva lot better than not having any Patreon alternatives at all.

(One of the interesting quirks of the site is that it’s actually one of the easiest places to simply leave a tip for a creator — even one you aren’t subscribed to. Why other sites don’t make it this easy, I will never understand — but there it is.)

How I’m Using SubscribeStar

As I said previously, mirroring all of the content posted at Patreon was originally the purpose of SubscribeStar. I wanted to offer an alternative to people who didn’t like Patreon, and at the same time, back up all the hundreds of thousands of words of fiction my Patreon site had amassed over the years. None of that has changed, and won’t.

What has changed is that now, I’ve taken to using SubscribeStar as a sort of safe harbor, in that pieces that are banned by Patreon get showcased at SubscribeStar in a category I lovingly refer to as “Too Hot for Patreon.” As you’ll see when you read a few of those posts, you’ll understand why I’m so baffled at what is sometimes banned there — these are not effed-up, riding the edge of sane pieces of writing at all. Pretty middle of the road actually, even by my standards.

Anyway, beyond that, I now use SubscribeStar as the first place to go for dark, sometimes experimental pieces, where the prospect of the work being muzzled is basically nil. (I really don’t write anything particularly crazy, in the grand scheme, but it is what it is). Unique to this site are typically shorter (but on occasion quite lengthy) pieces that, while not suited for a novel, do need a home where they can be appreciated. SubscribeStar fits that bill very nicely indeed.

I’ve gone on much too long with this post, so I’m going to ask you: what do you think of all of this? Anything you’d like to see me create where one of these sites might be a good fit? I’m always open to ideas.

Next time I visit this blog, I’ll write a bit about the new releases, my newsletter, and plans for the next few months.

Until then.

-Trent

It’s Been A While…

September 5, 2026 By Trent Evans 8 Comments

It occurred to me the other day that I hadn’t written a single thing on my blog/website in… years. While blogging is most assuredly dead — at least as we once knew it — actually confirming to your readers that you’re still, well, alive… will never go out of fashion.

I’m here. I’m doing well. I’m happy. That’s all any of us can really ask for, in the end.

There will be new material coming to this site as/when I get time (and the inclination) to post it. I have no idea on timeline for this material, but it will happen at some point.

Many, many changes have roiled the industry in the past several years. I have opinions on them, as do all of us, but you’re not likely to see many of them here. Or anywhere else, for that matter.

You see, I’m a writer. Nobody cares what I think. They only care — and rightfully so! — about the next book.

So, that’s what you’ll get from me.

I won’t promise never to comment, here and there, but largely, I’ve stopped caring all that much about the serial dramas that are endemic to publishing and writing. I’m just… really, really tired of them.

I just want to tell stories, in whatever way I choose, and to tell a lot of them. Which is exactly what I will do (and have been doing).

In addition, I need to be better about keeping you informed about what I’m up to — next projects, future state stuff, etc. So, you’ll be seeing a few of those posts first to (more or less) get everyone up to speed.

I’m glad you’re here, you few, you brave. I hope to make it worth it for you.

New Novel Almost Here… and an Update

January 31, 2021 By Trent Evans

To those of you wondering, no, I haven’t fallen off the face of the Earth — all evidence to the contrary.

I have been writing. Quite a bit, actually. But this has been a year of transition, and adjustment, career-wise… and it looks like said adjustment is finally settled.

So, what does that mean?

First, and most importantly, it means a new novel is almost here — a dark scifi M/f erotic romance with a strong, resilient heroine, and a tortured, conflicted hero. I think you’ll love both of these characters.

It’s currently with the editor, and with a little luck, should be published within the next month.

After that, there are several more novels to come, likely in quick succession.

As I said, I have been writing. A lot;)

What I’ve also been doing is spending quite a bit of time working on material for my Patreon community, something that’s grown larger than I’d ever imagined (and for which I’m so very, very grateful).

Patreon has become sort of my “go to” for readers who want to see what I’m up to, day-to-day. There are a wider range of fiction/kinks/pairings I’ve been experimenting with over there, some of which you won’t see in my published novels. Wanting more F/f content? More intense themes? Tropes and dynamics I haven’t done before? It’s all there.

There are now over 140 new scenes, vignettes, and short stories over on the Patreon page — a significant number of them not seen anywhere else. Those shorter works now total nearly 130,000 words at the time of this blog post.

$3/month tier gets you in to see all of that.

I’m also “writing in the open” over there, in that as I draft my indie novels, I’m posting them, chapter-by-chapter, over on Patreon. There, literally, is no way to read my books earlier than that, and it affords readers and fans a way to follow along in the creative process, and give input almost in real time. Patrons get to read my new indie stuff before it goes live on any retail platform. There are more than 53,000 words (across 28 posts) from new work-in-progress novels on the page, with more added regularly.

If you’re interested in that, $5/month is all you need to get access to it.

Finally, I’m doing Patreon-exclusive (*for the first six months, post publication) novels over there as well, including my first M/f age gap BDSM novel, Rescue Conditions.

Subscribing at either the $3, or $5 tier gets you access to the Patreon-exclusive novels.

Below, is a quick list of the novels in-progress over on my Patreon page right now:

Rescue Conditions – M/f maledom age gap (older man/younger woman), spanking, BDSM – [Patreon Exclusive*]

Conquering Cori – M/f maledom age gap (older woman/ younger man), spanking, BDSM, White Valley setting. (Both the hero, Lee, and heroine, Cori, made appearances in a rather dirty scene in the novel, Lacey’s Surrender. They get their own story here!)

Captive Cargo – M/f maledom dark scifi, BDSM, Master/slave (quasi-sequel to, Submission’s Edge)

Property of the Nocturne – M/f, MfM, F/f, F/m, maledom/lezdom/femdom dark epic fantasy/paranormal, vampires, BDSM, captivity (Book #2 in The Chronicles of Muurland series; long overdue sequel to, The Fall of Lady Westwood)

The Humbled Quean – MF/f maledom/lezdom, cuckquean, married couple + “unicorn”, contemporary

There are other fun things over there as well, including:

  • Maps – I have posted a rough map of Muurland over there for The Chronicles of Muurland readers to enjoy — and with more to come soon!)
  • Polls – Want direct input on what Trent might write next? This is where you can get your voice heard! Patrons got to choose by popular vote what the first Patreon exclusive novel would be — and age gap won, going away. Thus, Rescue Conditions was born!
  • Background/setting information – There are “gazetteer”-style entries for Muurland posted, including one about the mysterious matriarchal barbarian civilization whose home is centered deep in The Great Southern Forest, a people known only as “The Trackless.”

In the near future, there are going to be many other features, including:

Publication schedules

Vignettes

“Director’s cut” epilogues

“Too Hot for Amazon” alternate scenes

Author interviews

Series background

Author notes

I’m so excited to see what this Patreon community has become in such a short time, and I have great hopes for what it might evolve into over the next year.

In case you’re wondering, no, I have zero plans to abandon this blog, either. It is, and will continue to be, the first place people can go to learn more about my books.

The various Silicon Valley behemoths have made it plain to see that they don’t want, or like erotic fiction on their platforms. And they have made it crystal clear their belief that they know better what readers should be reading… than the readers do.

This is not hyperbole; this is what’s actually happened, surreal though it may be. I expect that problem to get much worse before it (possibly) gets better. As a result of this, I just can’t rely on social media anymore.

I won’t be missing from social media, but my presence there will be more “outposts” than anything particularly active. I’m going to instead focus my attention (and work) on the venues where I have the best chance of reaching and engaging with what’s most important to me — readers like you!

I will be concentrating my efforts on my newsletter, my Patreon page, and my blog — in that order — for the foreseeable future.

Despite the headwinds erotic fiction writers face, and the challenging (and troubling) increase in censorship we’re now contending with, I’m excited for the future of books, and of storytelling.

Great things are still to come.

I intend to be here for a long time yet, doing what I do, in the way I want to do it.

And I hope you’ll be here, too.

Update + New Venue for Trent writing

April 14, 2020 By Trent Evans

Hi All!

I’ve been a little quiet here lately, but there’s a good reason for it. I’ve been trying to brainstorm ways of giving readers more cost effective access to my work, and determined that adding a Patreon page to my overall platform made a lot of sense.

Right now, most of my published long form work is available as e-books through all major e-book retailers, while a few novels I’ve done through other publishers are largely Amazon/Kindle Unlimited exclusive.

I realized that other options were needed for:

1) People who didn’t have the money to afford the $10/month for Kindle Unlimited, nor the funds needed to purchase books individually, and

2) Readers who, for whatever reason, didn’t like/have no access to Amazon, or other e-book retailers.

My Patreon page is something I hope bridges that gap for those readers. It’s by far the most cost effective way to access Trent Evans writing (starting at $3/month!), and it has the added benefit of having limited time exclusive content regularly posted there.

On a few other venues,  I often write captions, or vignettes, or scenes, but wanted to find a way to collect that writing into one centralized place for other readers to enjoy. The $3 option allows readers to access all of that material, and it’s material that’s fairly wide-ranging, and often dirtier even than what I publish in my e-book work. If you’ve ever thought, “I wonder what Trent would do with this trope, or that kink, or that crazy fucked-up premise?” well, my Patreon page is the best place to find out:)

Future captions, vignettes, and scenes will now appear exclusively FIRST on my Patreon page, before appearing anywhere else. So, if you can’t wait to see what’s next, a $3 subscription is all you’ll need!

These new captions/vignettes will be added to my Patreon page at a clip of 4-8 new ones/month so I’m hoping readers who decide to check them out will want to stick around a while. But if not, that’s okay too:)

(For anyone wondering, never fear, I am still working on, and will publish, plenty of full-length e-books. That’s not changing at all. I am a novelist, first and foremost, and will remain so as long as people still want to read my work:)

For those of you so inclined, there is a slightly higher cost $5 option that allows you access to all of my captions, vignettes, and scenes (over 60,000 words and counting), AND also allows you to follow along with me as I post new chapters of my various novel and novella-length works-in-progress (WIP).

Some of you have asked me in the past how they could read the things I’m working on, even if it was only partials, or chapters, or scenes — the Patreon page will definitely fulfill that request!

There are over 18,000 words of WIP fiction already posted, with much more scheduled for publication in the coming weeks and months.

That’s not all, either. For paying patrons, I am also planning to post some very interesting bonus material such as:

author notes

book notes/errata

background and setting information

bonus character background

interviews, deleted scenes

Eventually, a comprehensive publication plan for my next year or two of publications will be included as well for patrons.

Lastly, for subscribers to my Patreon page, you will have the ability to directly message me whenever you’d like. I want this to be a place where people can have fun, and talk freely about the books they love (and no, that doesn’t mean it has to be just about my books!). I will answer your messages as soon as possible, and would love to hear from you!

Have requests for future books, or tropes, or genres? Questions about a character or an event or a setting in one of my books? Questions about erotic fiction writing and the publishing industry? Just send me a message:)

I’ve never done anything like this before, so I’m hoping I don’t fall flat on my face with it…

I hope my e-book readers will give my Patreon page a look, as the fiction I’m posting over there is, effectively, a significant expansion on the areas my writing usually covers, including into subjects that might not be “favored content” commercially.

I wanted to be able to do some writing where those commercial considerations (read: shackles) weren’t a factor anymore, and instead let imagination be my only guide. Some of the material on my Patreon page will surprise… and maybe even shock. Some of it just might not be for you — and that’s okay!

I’m confident though that you’ll be glad you gave it a look. As always, I’d love to hear what you think of this idea — good or bad.

Thank you so much for your support and wonderful encouragement. It means more to me than I can possibly convey.

Trent

What’s Ahead for 2017 – Predictions!

January 9, 2017 By Trent Evans

In my previous post, I realize I may have conveyed a bit more of a pessimistic tone than I’d intended. I was going for realistic… but I recognize I may have missed the mark there. I’ll try not to be such a Debbie Downer with this post… but I can’t promise I’ll succeed:)

I don’t normally engage in the predictions game, but this is an industry rife with so much change that I thought I’d make a few this year just for shits & giggles. In 2018, we can come back and laugh at how many I got wrong. I’ll start with the higher confidence predictions, and end with the more… unlikely ones.

This should be interesting…

(Disclaimer: What follows are my opinions only, based on my observations of the publishing industry.)

The Year That Was – 2016

January 3, 2017 By Trent Evans

I try to keep this blog reader focused, but from time to time, I also will opine on the publishing industry as a whole. This is one of those times, so if reading my blathering about the state of publishing doesn’t sound like your idea of a party, we’ll be back to regularly scheduled programming soon:) Oh, and a warning: this blog post is long.

2016. Well, that was interesting!

So much changed during 2016, and I don’t really have the space here to go into all of it, so I’ll just hit a few highlights of the things I noted during the past year. Ready? Here goes…
