30 Days of Kink — Day 19

July 20, 2013 By Trent Evans

Day 19: Any unexpected ways kink has improved your life? If so, what are they?

In many ways, this is one of those chicken or the egg/which came first questions. Have I embraced kink because my life has improved (e.g. I’m more comfortable with myself), or has kink demonstrably improved how I view and live my life? I don’t suppose it really matters either way when you get right down to it, as the answer is an unqualified ‘yes’.

First and foremost, and most surprisingly, it’s helped me just relax about being who I am, about being different than the “norm”. So you’re a dude who likes to spank women, who likes to run the show in the bedroom. Big effing deal. There are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions like you in this country alone. Welcome to a very large club! So, you like to write erotica and erotic romance soaked in BDSM. Big whoop — there are hundreds, thousands more who do the same thing. I think realizing that you are not alone, that you aren’t a simple aberration of the human condition really helps. I suppose the Intertubez are an integral part of that as well:)

In a larger sense though, discovering this entire world outside of your little tiny, insular existence is equal parts exhilarating, and humbling. Not only are you not alone, but you aren’t even that uncommon in the larger world of kink. To some that might be disturbing as it might lessen the sense of uniqueness that they may pride themselves on. Hard to tell, but for me, it was a huge relief:)

Secondly, kink has certainly helped me understand people better, even vanilla people. I’m going to take a wild guess here, and state that, by and large, kinky people are somewhat more open about sex and sexuality than most people. I understand that this is a gross generalization, but I think it’s probably fairly accurate. In my case, it’s definitely opened my eyes to the motivations of those around me, allowed me to perceive some of the subtler interpersonal interactions and cues that many of us are subconsciously aware of, but don’t necessarily consciously perceive. What I mean by this, specifically, is how driven many (if not most) people are by their base animal instincts. Modern human culture and social mores have necessarily put a brake on these urges, redirected them, channeled them into (sometimes) more constructive endeavors, but those drives, those urges, remain, as viscerally vital to all of us as fear or hunger are. This probably sounds like a bunch of foofy shit to most of you, but hopefully a few of you get what I’m trying to say here;)

Lastly, kink has unexpectedly allowed me to understand myself. It’s been a way to help me sort out who the fuck I am. I’m not particularly deep or complex, but oddly enough, those parts of me that were forever an inscrutable mystery to me have started to make a helluva lot more sense since I’ve been able to admit, to be at peace with who I am. Once I could make sense of the tangled mess that was me, it not only helped me understand others, it helped me empathize with others. My friend, and blogging partner over at Romancing The Kink, the talented Natasha Knight, has a famous quote at the end of her e-mails that I’ve always liked, and one it’s something that I think perfectly crystallizes what many of us who are kinky go through inside our own heads:

“Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad.” — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Jesus, this all sounds like self-indulgent navel-gazing from me, doesn’t it? I’m going to do all of you a big favor and STFU for now:)

Until Day 20.

Trent

Guest Post — New Release: Taming Emma by Natasha Knight

April 24, 2013 By Trent Evans

Today, I’d like to welcome one of my fellow authors from Romancing The Kink, the talented Natasha Knight. She’s a lot more interesting than I am, so I’ll shut up now:)

******

Hi Trent, thanks so much for having me here today. I love your blog, I love your books and as you know, I’m thrilled about working with you on Romancing The Kink.

I just want to say a few words before getting to the excerpt for Taming Emma. As I was writing this book, the idea of a man who could  give pain became so intriguing to me that I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a long time. Still haven’t really. For some reason, to me, it exemplifies complete strength or power. I don’t really understand this so well just yet, but in the writing of Luke, this aspect of things developed a little bit. I feel like I just barely scratched the surface but that’s how my mind works I suppose. Slow for a little while before diving in deep, head first.

This excerpt comes toward the end of the book when Emma’s run off after Luke’s confronted her with her past. They need each other but are struggling with their separate demons. In his scene, Luke has told Emma he wants to see her, all of her. But she knows the only way she’ll be able to allow that is if he makes her.

 Enjoy.

 Taming Emma by Natasha Knight

Emma had always been interested in exploring the world of BDSM, and given her desperate circumstances, this sounded like the perfect opportunity. One weekend of complete submission to the highest bidder among a select group of wealthy men, and her financial troubles would be over. Emma wasn’t really sure what to expect when she agreed to the deal, but one thing she definitely did not expect was Luke Roark.

The moment Luke removed the blindfold and recognized the beautiful, nearly-nude young woman standing before him as Emma Lawson, his best-friend’s little sister, he knew what he had to do. However, after buying her contract with the intention of giving her a firm lecture and taking her home, he cannot help but imagine the things he could teach her.

Emma spent many years as a teenager fantasizing about Luke, and when he is suddenly thrust into her life again she is torn between her fears and her desires, but her need to submit wins out. Emma chooses to stay and honor her contract, and she quickly finds herself on her knees before him, bare, bound, helpless, and forced to take whatever he wishes to give her… and he wishes to give her a great deal, relishing the chance to play Emma’s naked, trembling body like a finely-tuned instrument until she is blushing red and begging for more.

It is not long, though, before both Luke and Emma can feel that something much more than just physical attraction binds them together, but can they put aside their painful pasts and embrace a future together?

Excerpt:

“There’s nothing ugly or dirty in truth. Let me see you,” he said.

She searched his eyes, wanting nothing more than to give him what he wanted. She only knew one way that that would be possible. “Punish me,” she said. “Hard.”

Now it was his turn to study her. She kept her gaze level with his. This was what she wanted, what she needed. For a moment, she wasn’t sure he would give it to her but then, his expression changed. He decided and every hair on her body stood on end in response.

He straightened to his full height, his eyes a little harder now. She watched him strip off his shirt and set it aside. He moved to the large trunk against the wall, opened it and returned a few moments later, riding crop in hand.

“Stand up.”

She heard her own heartbeat while she rose slowly to her feet. He was going to give her just what she asked for. His hand tighten around the crop while she watched. Her eyes grew wide when he tapped it against his leg and when she turned her gaze to his, it took all she had not to step back.

“You’re pale,” he said, touching her face.

“You like this,” she replied, forcing herself to remain still as he brushed her hair over her shoulders.

“Very much.” He brought his lips to hers and his free hand first caressed, then pinched one of her nipples.

She made no sound but her body trembled, her mouth opening to receive him.

He didn’t pull her nearer but only kissed and she knew he was taking pleasure. This was for him, only the punishment would be for her.

“Tell me,” he whispered against her mouth, still kissing her, still holding her to him. “How many strokes before you cry, Emma?”

She made a sound, her body wanting him, wanting what he was going to give her, even as it feared the pain.

“I’m going to give you exactly what you asked for,” he said, walking her toward the bed.

“Please,” she said when she felt the iron of the footboard against her back.

“Please what?” he asked, caressing her thigh with the crop.

“Please…Master,” she said.

“Oh, you’re a good girl, Emma. You’re my good girl. Now,” he pulled back. “Turn around,” he stepped back, giving her just enough space so she could turn.

She did, placing her hands on the cool metal.

“Down you go, rest your chest on the bed, arms overhead. Good girl, that’s right. Spread your legs wide for me.”

She didn’t look back as she settled her torso on the bed and extended her arms over her head. She’d asked for this. She spread her legs wide, imagining herself spread before him, ready for him. The weight of stiff leather made her shudder when he set the crop across her back and moved around the bed. She watched him unravel the long straps that were attached to each corner of the bed and wound them around her wrists, first the right, then the left. He then tugged and adjusted their length, lifting her just a little higher so that the footboard carried most of her weight and only the tips of her toes touched ground. She closed her legs a little, adjusting to the new position, but he came behind her and before she knew it, her ankles too were bound by similar straps, spreading her wide open. When he was finished, she watched him set a large mirror on the wall just in front of the bed. He positioned it so that she could see herself completely. Meeting her eyes in the mirror, he smiled, pleased.

When he stepped behind her, she felt, for one instant, panic. She tugged at her bonds but neither those at her wrists nor those at her ankles gave. They held her firm, her body now an offering as he lifted the leather from her back.

“How many until you cry?” he asked, his eyes on her wide spread bottom.

She tugged again, his voice sounding too different. “Master!” she called, needing him back. Needing Luke.

His eyes in the mirror looked darker, aroused definitely, but also something else.

“I want to give you pain, Emma,” he whispered.

What’s Coming Up? Changes on the way for Trent

April 13, 2013 By Trent Evans

I’d meant to post this earlier this year, but alas, real life threw a huge stick in the spokes:(

I’m just now getting back to writing (and blogging) more or less regularly so I thought I’d write a quick update on some plans and coming attractions. In no particular order:

TrentEvansLetters is moving

Well, not really moving per se, but rather changing over to a .com domain. I’ll have more flexibility to improve the blog/website this way, and I’ll have more control over how the content is handled as well as security. I still haven’t figured out how I’m going to migrate everyone over yet, but when I do, I’ll let everyone know:)

New Group Blog

My friends and colleagues, authors Sheri Savill and Natasha Knight have agreed to join with me in creating a new group blog/website called Romancing The Kink. I’m really honored to share a blog with these two ladies. They’re not only great writers, but cool people, and they both bring fresh, unique perspectives to BDSM fiction, as well as kink in general.

We have some ambitious plans for this thing and it’s just getting off the ground now. What we have envisioned for RTK is a place that both readers and authors can go to be entertained, informed, and erm, aroused. Can we pull all three of those off? Who the eff knows, but we’re sure as hell going to be trying!

I do plan to continue blogging at TrentEvansLetters.com, but I’ll also be posting some content at RTK that will be exclusive to that site — including a serialized, rather dark BDSM erotica story called Her Troika —  so I highly recommend heading over there to check it out too!

Publication Schedule for 2013

As a voracious reader myself, I always love hearing what publishers and authors have planned for the rest of the year, so I figured I’d share what I’ve got slated to be released in 2013 — just in case anyone’s interested;)

This schedule is subject to change of course, but this is a fairly accurate prediction of what you’ll see published soon.

Q1 release

— What She’s Looking For — BDSM Menage (MFM) erotic romance — full length (approx 97,000 words)

Projected Release: April 15 (e-book); May 15 (print)

Q2 release #1

— (Untitled) collaborative work — BDSM TPE  MF dub con erotica — full length (projected: 60,000 — 70,000 words)

Estimated Release: June 30 (e-book); print edition TBD

Q2 release #2

— Working title: The Change — BDSM TPE MFM/MF fetish erotica — full length (projected: 55,000 words)

Estimated Release: July 30 (e-book); print edition TBD

Q3 release

— (Untitled) Sequel to A Message of Love — D/s MF spanking paranormal erotic romance — short novel (projected: 45, 000 words)

Estimated Release: Sep 30 (e-book); print edition TBD

Q4 release

— Working Title: The Cavalier — BDSM MF Paranormal (vampire sub-genre) erotic romance — full length (projected: 75,000 words)

Estimated Release: Dec 30 (e-book); print edition TBD

Quite a year ahead, so I hope you stick with me! Until next time.

Best,

Trent
